Chinese paintings, scrolls embrace images of nature
The pretty, wooded setting surrounding Egbert Ennulat's Cedar Creek home in Athens offers something of a preview to what's inside.

Walls are filled with Chinese brush paintings by various artists, containing mesmerizing images of nature. Each is painted in a characteristic minimalist style, the simplicity belying the skillful technique of the hands that made them. It's this technique the retired professor emeritus from the University of Georgia's School of Music spends hours honing. Ennulat, born in Germany, has studied at the Chinese Academy for Traditional Painting in Beijing and with I-Hsiung Ju, a master of the artform, as well as other renowned artists in the field.
He says he has hardly perfected his technique, and for that reason it's a little intimidating that his work will be hanging at the Lyndon House Arts Center through January alongside the work of his teacher, Ju, as well as another respected artist and student of Ju, Virginia Lloyd-Davies. Ennulat explains he suggested the Lyndon House show these works, and under the Clarke County Leisure Service stipulations, one of the artists represented must be a county resident. Ennulat felt it was important enough for Athens to see Ju's works, in particular, that he consented.
And with good reason. Ju's grand-scale "Yangtze River Mural" contains 16 panels or scrolls tracing the Yangtze River from its source to the sea, while 22 scrolls make up Ju's painting of the Yellow Mountains.
